Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for accounting and financial activities. Directs and has overall supervisory responsibility for accounting, internal and external auditing, cost accounting, budgetary management, financial analysis, payroll, forecasting, accounts payable, accounts receivable and financial reporting.

License/certification: CMA, CPA (Preferred)

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Develop accounting policies to comply with generally accepted accounting principles, tax requirements, state reporting requirements, and management reporting requirements.
  • Full responsibility for all accounting functions including: accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger entry and reconciliation, cash flow management, overseeing audits, monthly financial statements, grants billing and reporting, budgeting and financial reporting.
  • Responsible for the budgeting process from forecasts through compilation to implementation and monitoring.
  • Responsible for annual Unit Cost Report.
  • Responsible for the Personal Financial Services team who provide representative payee services to approximately 600 clients.
  • Responsible for maintaining fixed assets accounting, including capital leases and depreciation.
  • Ensure the development and integrity of the systems of internal accounting controls and procedures.
  • Analyze and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner and oversee all financial and grants accounting.
  • Effectively communicate and present critical financial matters to the CFO.
  • Direct the preparation of periodic and yearly financial statements, including interpretive charts and graphs to assist in analysis of results and conditions of the organization.
  • Responsible for preparation and completion of external audit and any other required compliance reporting.
  • Provide on-going Cost Accounting information to Mental Health Center of Denver executive management as requested, and assist in analysis necessary for rate setting.
  • Responsible for payroll functions including processing, reporting and compliance.

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Accounting, Finance or related discipline.  Accounting designation (CMA, CGA or CPA), or an equivalent combination of related experience and education.

EXPERIENCE: Minimum 10 years accounting experience in a senior accounting or financial management role with at least 5 years of experience in a supervisory role. Must have five years of current experience in spreadsheet and database software. Prefer direct health care and/or non-profit experience.               

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:

  • Extensive knowledge of accounting theories and practices.
  • Must have excellent computer skills.
  • Should have proficiency in spreadsheet, database and word processing software.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to work well with people on all levels.
  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:   Payroll, Accounting and Personal Financial Services

MACHINES AND EQUIPMENT TO BE USED: Computers, calculators, fax machines, copiers, telephone and a variety of other office/clerical equipment.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Requires sitting, standing, bending and reaching.   Requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate standard office machines such as computers, copiers, telephones and other office and/or clinical equipment.

WORKING CONDITIONS: May require occasional evening or weekend hours.
