Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:  Peer Specialists strive to help people reach their own goals and live healthy lives by supporting them in identifying strengths and abilities followed by assisting them in articulating, developing, and creating personal goals for recovery through one-to-one and group support. Peer Specialists support the program and assist individuals in accessing resources, supports and creating a bridge to the greater community.


  • Assist with orienting new individuals to the program.
  • Report clinical concerns and high-risk individuals and safety issues as they occur to other program staff and supervisor.
  • Meet with individuals to discuss goals and help support individuals in achieving desired goals.
  • Work with program staff to develop and maintain a resource directory available to individuals.
  • Assist in developing and facilitating skills and educational groups.
  • Assist individuals in obtaining services that suit the individual’s recovery needs including community and natural supports in addition to organizational supports.
  • Help individuals gain support and resources to aide in finding employment
  • Promote collaboration and sharing of resources for idividuals in the community: food, clothing, transportation, recreation, medical, insurances, housing, shelters and employment, as appropriate.
  • Use ongoing individual and group sessions that build on identified strengths and teach people problem-solving techniques, how to identify and overcome fears and combat negative self-talk/self-stigma.
  • Maintaining accurate documentation.
  • Assist program staff in creating and facilitating events within the 2Succeed community.
  • Attend program team meetings and supervision as scheduled.
  • Attend training as identified.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE: Lived and/or working experience

EDUCATION: High School diploma or equivalent. Certification from formal training as a Peer Specialist is helpful. CPRP (Certified Psychiatric Rehabilitation Practitioner) or ability to obtain is highly desirable.

PHYSICAL REQIUREMENTS: Ability to sit, stand, bend and reach, drive, operate standard office equipment such as phone, computer, facsimile, copier/printer, and other business machines. Household appliances and equipment. Occasional lifting up to 40 lbs.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Work mornings, afternoons, and early evenings. Driver’s license preferred and must maintain a good driving record while employed with agency. Meets the requirements of applicable federal, state and organizational background checks.
