Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for medical insurance billing, reporting and accounts receivable reconciliation functions for the organization.

SALARY RANGE: $21.00/hr. – $24.00/hr.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Prepare and submit electronic and paper claims to Medicare, Medicaid and other Third Party Payers in accordance with prescribed standards.
  • Communicate with AR Manager and AR team of any issues that interfere with claim submission/payment remittance.
  • Post receivables and reconcile AR accounts.
  • Contact payers to resolve claims payment discrepancies.
  • Research and handle claims payment appeals and denials.
  • Maintain accurate billing records in accordance with prescribed standards.
  • Prepare accurate AR reports as necessary.
  • Work with AR Manager to research Medicare, Medicaid and Third Party issues as needed.
  • AR monthly reconciliation reports
  • Follow through with other Programs/Departments to ensure accuracy and compliance with billing standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education:  Associate’s Degree in Accounting or related field, Billing Certification, or equivalent experience is required.

Experience: Minimum five years AR and billing experience in a healthcare/medical environment.

Skills: In-depth knowledge of medical terminology, insurance codes, and medical claims billing standards. Knowledge of accounting theories and practices. Ability to handle responsibilities independently, with a certain degree of resourcefulness and creativity and minimum supervision. Familiarity with accounting software programs and EDI processes.  Competence in word processing and Microsoft Excel spreadsheet allocation.  Ability to train others in department/organization on AR software.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: No formal supervision duties.

MACHINES AND EQUIPMENT TO BE USED: Computers, calculators, fax machines, copiers, telephone and a variety of other office/administrative equipment.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Requires sitting, standing, bending and reaching. Required manual dexterity sufficient to operate standard office machines such as computers, fax machines, calculators, the telephone, and other office and/or administrative equipment.

WORKING CONDITIONS:   May require occasional evening & weekend hours.
