Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY: Provide custodial and child watch support to the Mental Health Center of Denver’s West Denver Child & Family Campus. The campus consists of our Child & Family Outpatient Clinic, A New Day Family Resource Center, and Grove buildings. The position will keep the interiors and exteriors of assigned buildings clean and orderly and provide some limited childcare support to help facilitate families’ ability to access services at the location.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Create a positive experience for consumers and guests through exemplary customer service and professional conduct through day porter and childcare duties.
  • Ensure the building area is aesthetically pleasing, safe, and friendly for all guests.
  • Spot sweep and mop floors; empty waste receptacles; clean and replenish supplies in restrooms; clean play areas (including toys), kitchens, and other common use areas.
  • Support foodbank and resource distribution operations at A New Day Family Resource Center.
  • Watch children ages 6 months and older on a limited basis (no more than 5 children at one time).
  • Maintain each consumer’s HIPAA rights, and other protections of confidentiality and privacy.
  • Follow organizational and departmental rules and guidelines.
  • Notify Front Office Administration of needed supplies or equipment. Report necessary repairs to Facilities
  • Perform other duties as assigned, based on individual site needs.

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES: 

  • Knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in janitorial maintenance work.
  • General knowledge of child development norms and effective childcare practices.
  • Strong work ethic, accountability, responsiveness, and commitment to MHCD’s mission.
  • Comfort working with individuals and families from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to engage and support children in a kind, compassionate, and trauma-informed manner.
  • The ability to laugh with others and have a sense of humor.
  • Spanish-speaking preferred.

EDUCATION:   High School diploma or equivalent.

EXPERIENCE: One year experience as a custodian, janitor, or similar position. Experience watching and caring for children.

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:

  • Detailed and organized
  • Cleaning and Custodial experience preferred.
  • Safety-minded
  • Customer-service orientation – friendly and polite

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:   None

MACHINES AND EQUIPMENT TO BE USED: Cleaning supplies, cleaning tools (mop, broom, vacuum, rags, etc.), computers, calculators, fax machines, copiers, telephone.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Requires frequent sitting, standing, bending and reaching. May require lifting up to 50 pounds.   Requires physical stamina and manual dexterity sufficient to operate cleaning tools and equipment.

WORKING CONDITIONS: May require occasional evening or weekend hours.
