Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY: Emerson Street for Teens and Young Adults and Urban Peak Denver are both non-profit organizations that are innovative, strengths-based, and trauma-informed, serving transitional age youth (TAY) in the Denver Metro area. This position will be funded by the Healthy Transitions grant and services will be provided for TAY primarily at Urban Peak Denver locations, with some services provided in the community and home as needed. Bilingual Spanish preferred, but not required. 

HIRING RANGE:

Mental Health Therapist II (Master's) - $21.13/hr - $25.37/hr

LCSW - $25.48/hr. - $30.55/hr. 

LPC/LMFT - $24.08/hr. - $28.88/hr.

Spanish language hourly differential: $2.50/hr.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Provide diagnostic mental health assessments as well as individual, family, caregiver support and/or group psychotherapy along with crisis intervention services to youth in community and Urban Peak Denver settings. Complete necessary grant related assessments with youth.
  • Develop treatment plans, monitor treatment progress and follow-up as clinically indicated.
  • Facilitate the coordination of medication/medicinal needs of clients with psychiatric, case management, and medical resources.
  • Facilitate the persons we serve and support systems’ growth and development with an emphasis on strengths and resiliency.
  • Collaborate and coordinate with internal (Mental Health Center of Denver and Urban Peak) and external partners in support of the person’s growth and development. This includes coordination with psychiatry, case management, educational and employment supports, as well as any other important partner in the person’s transition to adulthood.
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation consistent with agency standards.
  • Participate in team meetings, in-services and supervisory sessions as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

EDUCATION: Master’s Degree (or higher) in Psychology, Social Work, or other human service field. Licensed preferred (LCSW, LPC, LMFT).

EXPERIENCE: At least three years’ experience working with adolescents and/or young adults experiencing significant mental health challenges.

SKILLS:

    • Knowledge and methods of psychotherapy
    • Knowledge of community resources
    • Ability to assess crisis situations and intervene appropriately
    • Ability to de-escalate and remain calm
    • Familiarity with the DSM-V and diagnostic techniques
    • Must have a clear understanding of HIPAA, confidentiality, personal boundaries and be self-assured in a variety of situations.
    • Effective written and verbal communication skills
    • Ability to work independently, flexibly, and quickly adapt to changing situations
    • Ability to give, receive and analyze information, formulate work plans, prepare written materials and articulate goals and action plans
    • Must understand people from all walks of life and be able to communicate effectively with them – connect with people, so they are engaged in treatment.
    • Someone who is energetic, with a positive and creative attitude is necessary.
    • Knowledge and understanding of trauma-informed care principles/practices.  
    • Good time-management for managing appointments in the community and for timely documentation in the HER
    • Bilingual Spanish preferred.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Ability to sit, stand, bend and reach, drive, operate standard office equipment such as phone, computer, facsimile, copier/printer, and other business machines. Occasional lifting up to 40 lbs.

TYPICAL MENTAL DEMANDS: Ability to give, receive and analyze information, formulate work plans, prepare written materials and articulate goals and action plans. Must understand people from all walks of life and be able to communicate effectively with them.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Will require evening, weekend and may require occasional on-call hours. 40 hour work week with .5 day on Saturday and evenings required. Some local travel depending on position.
