POSITION SUMMARY: This position is responsible for providing administrative support to program manager of Peer Program and helping direct and supervise mentors and specialists working on the Peer Team. The position helps maintain efficient team operations by coordinating team functioning/events/trainings and supports job skill development of the team members. Additionally, the person filling this position works alongside team members providing direct services.

SALARY RANGE:

VS I - $15.92/hr. - $19.10/hr. (No degree)

VS II - $18.49/hr. - $22.19/hr. (Bachelor +)

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 

  • Supervise, coach, develop, and direct work for peer mentors and peer specialists at the direction of the program manager.
  • Provide individual and intentional training to peer specialists and peer mentors and other employees on the Peer team, and monitor completion of training by peer mentor and specialist staff members.  
  • Provide direct services and carry a partial peer specialist caseload.
  • Facilitate weekly team and individual staff meetings in absence of Program Manager.
  • Participate in the hiring process of candidates for job vacancies.
  • Promote consumer recovery and effective employee job performance using a strengths-based approach by assisting with treatment planning for individuals served by the Peer Team.
  • Assist the Program Manager with caseload assignments.
  • Conduct rehabilitative and goal-oriented educational services including but not limited to planning and facilitating social activities within the community for the Peer Team members and the people they serve.
  • Practice trauma-informed work and promote diversity and inclusivity principles effectively in the workplace, at all times.
  • Maintain awareness of and support compliance with MHCD policies, procedures, as well as performance standards for each team position. Follow disciplinary action procedures when appropriate.
  • Maintain State, Federal laws, regulations and professional industry standards in delivery of psychiatric rehabilitation services.
  • Manage employee performance. Identify when disciplinary action may be appropriate; and, properly document and deliver disciplinary actions in writing with the employee.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

EDUCATION:  

Vocational Supervisor I: High School Diploma/GED

Vocational Supervisor II: Bachelor level degree in Social Work, Vocational Rehabilitation, Psychology or similar field.

EXPERIENCE: Lived personal or family experience required.

Minimum one year in mental health, vocational rehabilitation, social services or in field of services supervised. One year of supervisory experience is preferred.

SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, customer service and community relations skills.
  • Ability to give appropriate and timely feedback to team members.
  • Ability to identify and utilize cultural factors in evaluation and treatment planning. Strong understanding and practice of trauma-informed principles.
  • Knowledge of rehabilitation supervision and care coordination.
  • Ability to assess and seek appropriate support when people served are in crisis situations.
  • Some knowledge of DSM V and mental health. Understanding of behavioral health information and rehabilitation processes.
  • Ability to analyze complex situations and implement coordinated, systematic solutions.
  • Working knowledge of PC-based software for communications, word processing, data tracking, and data analysis.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervise members of the Peer Team.

MACHINES AND EQUIPMENT TO BE USED: Computers, calculators, fax machines, copiers, telephone and a variety of other office/clerical equipment.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Requires sitting, standing, bending and reaching. May require lifting up to 50 pounds.   Requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate standard office machines such as computers, fax machines, the telephone and other office and/or clinical Must be able to drive with clean driving record.

WORKING CONDITIONS: May require occasional evening or weekend hours. Driver license required.
